Not a platypus :(

humor, miscellaneous

I got a new awesome platitude for you. I wish it was a platypus, but no such luck.

“Things always have a way of working out.”

Do they? Do they really?

  1. The trouble with this particular platitude (and, really, many platitudes), is that they are just words to fill a void. Something to say that means nothing. “Things always have a way of working out.” So, you mean my bad situation will somehow improve? Or do you mean that X will somehow multiply with Y and equal unicorns and rainbows for all? If only… if only…

  2. Things don’t always have a way of working out. Sometimes bad things happen…and sometimes a good thing happens… but that doesn’t mean the bad thing made the good thing possible.

      1. Here’s a brain turner… when Captain Obvious points out the obvious, and then you point that out to Captain Obvious… who ends up with the rank of General Obvious?

      1. “Things always have a way of working out.” is like saying the sun always has a way of rising. Even on cloudy days, just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. So one way or another, things will work out — possibly for the better or possibly disastrously or anywhere in between. But as my favorite platitude says, “it is what it is.”
